Sight-Reading Audition
An inclusive environment to promote education and
creativity among students of all ages and skill levels
Sight-Reading Audition
For this year, all students must fulfill a sight-reading requirement. *Not required for Beginning Students
Students will have one week only to submit their sight-reading video to the SDYS Team. All other audition requirements (scales, solo and excerpt) must be submitted through Acceptd by the June 5 registration deadline, as in past years.
As you may know, sight-reading is normally done within a few minutes of first viewing a piece of music. Since students have one week to complete this requirement, it is not technically sight-reading – however, our students should approach this requirement with the same mentality that they normally use when sight-reading:
- try your best – it may not be perfect, and that’s okay!
- it is not meant to be practiced over and over again
- this is only one audition element – your entire audition will be considered
This change gives our conductors another tool as they gauge which ensemble would be best suited to students’ current ability level, and we feel confident that this adjustment will lead to even more accurate ensemble placements. As always, our ultimate goal is to offer an exceptional musical experience for all of our students and their families.
2025-2026 Sight-Reading Requirements by Instrument
Due to some unfortunate circumstances of students sharing the link we are now emailing the sight-reading requirements out after registration by instrument.
If you registered prior to Thursday, May 8th, did not download the requirements, and still need to submit your sight-reading audition,
please email sightreading@keynote-music.org and a copy will be emailed to you.
Sight-Reading videos should be emailed to:
sightreading@keynote-music.org
Don't Forget!
After you have emailed your sight-reading audition to the SDYS team, you still need to complete your online audition via Acceptd by June 5.
