Corporate Giving to Support SDYS Students
Join companies like Illumina, PNC, Smart and Final, Cisco, and Teichert Construction in Helping SDYS Enrich Lives through Music. For nearly 80 years, San Diego Youth Symphony (SDYS) has invested in the future of thousands of young people through the study and performance of music. Through our Youth Orchestra program in historic Balboa Park, community outreach programs across San Diego County, and early childhood music curriculum, we are San Diego’s most comprehensive provider of cradle-to-college music education. At SDYS, we serve thousands of student musicians and their families every year, using music as a vehicle to give young people the social, emotional, and academic skills that prepare them to enter a 21st-century workforce. No qualified student is ever turned away for financial reasons: families who cannot afford to pay are given comprehensive support through The Encore Fund.
What is the Encore Fund?
Tuition, foundation support, and government grants cover only a fraction of SDYS’s total per-student cost. The Encore Fund, comprised of individual and corporate donors, completes the circle of support that ensures student success. The Encore Fund is so much more than monetary assistance, it creates wrap-around support that includes:
• Free group or private lessons
• Instrument loan to any student who need one
• Free instrumental supplies, cases and repairs
• Performance clothing for students who don’t have formal wear
• Free concert tickets for scholarship families
• Parent engagement programs and a parent liaison position
• Community-based programs that bring music into our schools
How does this help?
Just $3,000 underwrites an entire year of Encore Fund support for a scholarship student. Your gift of $3,000 will be recognized as a named scholarship, with logo recognition at our annual Encore Fund Gala, a special page in our annual report, in our concert program, and on the SDYS website. Join companies like Illumina, PNC, Smart and Final, Cisco, and Teichert Construction in helping SDYS Enrich Lives through Music.

INSTITUTIONAL GIVING & GOVERNMENT GRANTS
Foundations, Corporations, and Government funders across the nation – and here in San Diego County – recognize that arts education is a cornerstone of our communities.
Helping young people achieve their goals and contribute to our community is how KeyNote and its family of music education programs is building a better tomorrow. Corporate, Foundation and Government support of arts education in our community opens doorways of opportunity for young people across San Diego county.
You may sit on the board of directors for a foundation or corporation. You may serve in an advisory capacity to a similar organization. Help us be aware of opportunities for these organizations to commit to young people and the benefits of arts education that participating in KeyNote programs provides.
Institutional Giving support the following types of KeyNote programs:
- After-school programs featuring long-term music instruction for schools and districts that are seeking to restore and/or enhance their existing arts education efforts.
- In-school programs that provide long-term music instruction and/or arts integration programs.
- Need-based tuition assistance and immersive scholarship support including instrument loans, lessons, performance clothes, parent workshops, and free family concert tickets through the KeyNote Fund.
- Early childhood music education programs in community centers and libraries across San Diego County and with special educational partners.
- Free, community-based performances by students in San Diego Youth Symphony that introduce children and families to the exciting world of playing a musical instrument.
