SUSTAINING CAMPAIGN

$80,000 for the 80th

SUSTAINING  CAMPAIGN
$80,000 FOR 80

San Diego Youth Symphony (SDYS) is celebrating its 80th year of making music education accessible and affordable to all. Now more than ever, we need your help to ensure we're around for the next 80 years.

Why $800,000? And why now?

In the current political and economic climate, we can no longer count on Federal, State, and local government support. Cuts to funding and grants from previously reliable partners, like the National Endowment for the Arts, have already begun. The challenges are real, and our students are paying the price.

Reserves are critical for our survival!

The Sustaining Campaign has been created to safekeep our beloved institution, building a strong foundation for the next 80 years. Being proactive today ensures that students in San Diego will always have access to the gift of music and will learn the critical life lessons that participating in an ensemble provides.

WHY THE SUSTAINING CAMPAIGN?

SDYS' Sustaining Campaign looks beyond a one-year operating horizon to ensure sufficient reserves to meet our needs for generations to come. Your gift will be invested prudently, so the Sustaining capital will grow over time when not being used.

Your one-time, once-in-a-generation Sustaining gift ensures SDYS will be able to respond to multiple need scenarios, whether likely or unforeseen:

  • Government Funding Cuts
  • Cash Emergencies
  • Inflationary Spikes
  • Temporary Cash Flow Shortages
  • Capital Investment Needs

THANK YOU!

The Sustaining Fund Campaign will help grow our reserves to $800,000, building a strong foundation for the future.

Thank you for considering this request—and for all you do for SDYS, and the music students of San Diego County with your committed support. We could not do this important work without you!

For more information, please contact Associate Director, Individual Giving, Terry Williams at twilliams@keynote-music.org or 619-233-3232 x160. Terry will gladly follow up with you at your convenience to answer any questions you might have and to confirm your 2025-26 giving pledge.

“I am passionate about SDYS because of a student who told me that playing cello changed his life. I’ve been privileged to sponsor this young musician and others. Now, through my legacy gift, I know I can provide the gift of music education to generations of future music students at SDYS.”

Eric Cohen
Legacy Circle Donor

“Why make a legacy gift? That’s easy, because I love music and the young musicians of the SDYS are its future. But, for me, the key is ‘how.’ SDYS is the beneficiary of an IRA and these funds will pass, tax free, to SDYS. Whether it be legacy giving or my ‘regular’ donations, I can transfer appreciated assets without creating a tax event.”
